Ronald Reagan grew up in Dixon, Illinois. He went to grade school, high school and college in Illinois. Reagan was a good football player and actor. He graduated from college in 1932.
After college, Reagan took a job at a radio station as the sports announcer. In Iowa, he called baseball games. He called the games of the Chicago Cubs.
In 1937, Ronald Reagan started acting in Hollywood. Over the years, he was in more than 50 films. He was known for acting as a cowboy. Reagan was married in 1940. It didn’t last. He divorced in 1948.
A few years later, Ronald Regan married Nancy. They stayed married for over 50 years.
When he quit acting, Reagan went into politics. In 1967, he was elected governor of California. He was the governor for eight years.
In 1980, Ronald Reagan was elected president. He was very well liked. He was the oldest president ever elected. Reagan was 69 years old.
Soon after he was elected, a young man shot President Regan. He survived the attempt to kill him.
Reagan worked very hard to break up the Soviet Union. He lowered taxes for everyone. Reagan made our armies more powerful. He chose the first woman on the Supreme Court.
One year, Ronald Regan was named Man of the Year.
This was a special honor given to him for working for world peace. To honor Reagan, there is a huge navy ship named after him.
