The Bengal tiger is a large, wild cat. It likes to live alone. Some tigers travel in groups of three or four.

The tiger's fur is usually orange or brown. It has black stripes. The white tiger is white with black stripes. The white tiger is very rare.

The mother tiger has two to six cubs. Usually, only two cubs survive in the wild. The tigress feeds her cubs her milk. She is very loving. A cub stays with its mother until it is two years old. This is when the cub can hunt for food on its own.

The Bengal tiger is a meat-eater. Long legs help it to run fast. It hunts at night. It can catch deer, cattle or pigs easily. It also attacks young elephants and buffalo. It uses its sharp claws and strong teeth.

The tiger is an endangered animal. Hunters kill the tiger for its fur.
