An adobe house is made out of straw, mud, and sand. Adobe means sun dried brick. The straw, mud, and sand are mixed together.

Then the mix is poured into the shape of a brick. The dried bricks are stacked and the gaps are filled in with mud.

Large logs are used for the roof. The logs are covered with sticks, grass, and then mud.

The walls are thick adobe bricks. The thick bricks keep the inside of the house cool during hot weather. This helps to save energy.

In the past, adobe houses were mostly built in deserts. Native Americans living in the southwest built adobe houses called pueblos. Pueblo means town in Spanish.

A pueblo is a large adobe house that can fit many people inside it. All around the world, adobe houses are still being built today.
